The 911 RS does not need an introduction, it has locked its place in Porsche road and race history with the 911 RS Touring, RS Lightweight as well as the most rare of the model range, the RSR. The 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is regarded by many collectors and journalists as the greatest 911 ever produced having been manufactured as a direct result of Porsche's racing (RennSport) program. In the past, Octane magazine summarized the RS as: "the ultimate iteration of the 'early shape' 911, with its slimline rear bumper and longer bonnet that curls over the nose, you get the purest, undiluted 911 style."

Porsche eventually produced 1,580 RS examples made up of cars built to both 'Touring' specification, offering basic comfort trim and upholstery, and 'Lightweight' specification. Only 55 in total were transformed to full RSR racing guise and they went on to dominate the 1973 European GT Championship with outright wins at the Daytona 24-hours and Targa Florio. And so the 911 RS legend was born.

This 911 RS Touring is one of the first series of 500, it was originally delivered new to Germany with the factory fitted options of sports seats, retractable seatbelts, heated rear screen and a limited slip differential. Unlike many RS's that were used in anger and raced hard, this has led a pampered life and has formed part of several important collections.

This 911 RS Touring has recently been taken on trade by Autosport Designs, Inc. from a UK collector towards a Aston Martin from our inventory, but located in the UK with our good friends at Dylan Miles Classic & Sporting Automobiles. Here is a bullet point of its history as we know it…

First imported into the UK in April 1997. The RS was imported at the time by the late Jeremy Lloyd OBE. A screenwriter by trade, Lloyd was an avid enthusiast, owning several Rolls Royces, Lotus and other sports cars including this RS. Lloyd sold the car later that year. Two UK owners thereafter before the car was exported to Europe. In 2007, the RS received FIA papers for historic events, at the time it also received a conforming roll bar and limited slip differential.

In 2011, a comprehensive restoration by leading Swiss Porsche specialist Marc de Siebenthal and imported to the UK once again.

In 2014, the RS received a £40,000 of work with UK specialists Autofarm prior to being purchased by its past owner. Since, the RS has resided within a world-class car collection based in Hong Kong and has been used sparingly.

In 2022 and once again in the UK, the RS passed through the workshop of DK Engineering for an annual service. The RS received a brake overhaul including the replacement of the master cylinder.

In 2023, an oil leak resulted in an engine-out, top end rebuild and reseal with marque specialists Autofarm totaling £16,600, work completed, July 2023. Most recently, an annual service was carried out by Autofarm in October 2024.

Today, this example presents superbly. The original engine case was replaced in the past as can be the norm with the 3R magnesium's engine cases, the RS is currently is fitted with a correct type 3R engine case, but not the original.

This RS's history file is complete with all bills-invoices as well as a photographic record of its restoration and finally a recent report and compilation of its history by 911 RS specialist, Andy Prill.

This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a very limited and rare air-cooled Porsche that has been fully restored as well as serviced by well-known and respected Porsche marque specialists. A perfect entrant for many of the world's most prestigious driving events. The RS is magnificently engaging with a fabulous engine noise. Superb throughout, this 911 RS Touring is ready for immediate use and enjoyment along with its investment potential.
