The first generation M6 was critically acclaimed throughout its lifespan for its elegant, aggressive "shark-nose" styling; yet another masterpiece of contemporary design by maestro Paul Bracq. Luxury and performance were also period hallmarks, and a top speed of 158 mph at that time, the fastest production BMW built, next to the M1. Rug Cunningham, of Cunningham BMW, infamously entered a completely stock 1987 U.S. M6 in the La Carrera Classic Race in Mexico in 1989 and recorded an indicated top speed of 176 mph and wonderful Air Conditioning.
