1968 Marcos

1500 GT

--Candy Apple Red Pearl with Black racing stripe with Black leather interior and Black carpets, 4-speed manual, Completely restored, 1 of 82 Marcos 1500GT's manufactured and 1 of only 8 imported to the United States.

A partnership between Jem Marsh (a racing driver) and Frank Costin (a well-known aircraft engineer who had also worked with Lotus Engineering), combining their names became the beginning of Marcos Engineering Ltd. Marcos produced both sports and racing cars. Their innovative Wood and Fiberglass Bonded Chassis beneath the model's fiberglass skin represented an advanced thinking and approach towards monocoque chassis construction when steel tubing was the norm in Formula 1! Four-cylinder engines, mated to four speed manual gearboxes were normal fitment for 1500 and 1600GT's.

According to the Marcos International Car Club, 82 of the Marcos 1500GTs left the factory with the unique wood chassis and Ford Kent Motor paring. More uniquely, just 8 of those cars arrived on U.S. shores making this example an exceptionally rare sight on our roads.

This Marcos has been treated to a complete restoration and shows as one of the finest examples of the Marcos 1500GT available. Beyond its structural retreatment, the mechanicals were further given a refurbishment to exceptional condition. Its interior features chrome rimmed Smiths gauges within a lovely wood veneer dashboard. A period Becker radio has also been fitted.

Today and certainly after our recent road test, this Marcos 1500GT is in excellent condition and ready for immediate use. It is not only rare, but also a thrill to drive.

A wonderfully complete and rare sports car, this 1500GT is a welcomed addition to any enthusiast's home or collection.
