To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Ferrari marque, a state-of-the-art supercar was unveiled at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show. The F40 was intended to bring Ferrari's technical prowess from the racetrack to the autostrada and, in so doing, reinforce the direct connection between the company's legendary competition history and the sports cars it sold to customers.

At the heart of the F40 was a three-liter four-cam V-8 with four valves per cylinder, Weber-Marelli fuel injection, and twin IHI turbochargers. Developing 478 bhp and an impressive 426 lbs./ft of torque, the F40 was capable of 200 mph and 0 to 60 in less than four seconds.

There was no question that Ferrari had built a worthy symbol with which to celebrate its anniversary. Originally planned as a run of 400, demand was such that 1,300 examples were built before production ceased in 1991. This F40 is 1 of only 213 examples built specifically for the US market.

In collector ownership, this F40 is complete with books, tool, records, luggage and has led a charmed live to date. It is not only a concours example, it runs and drives as good as it looks and as originally intended by Ferrari when manufactured new. This F40 has absolutely no disappointments whatsoever. Inspections are welcomed.
