1978 Lotus

Esprit S1

--Yellow with Black leather and Black carpeting, 2.0 liter 4-Cylinder Engine Bored to 2.2 Liter, 5-speed manual, Numbers Matching, Restored to European specification, One of 718 Giorgetto Giugiaro Designed Esprit S1 cars.

The Esprit's legendary style was created from a private meeting between Chapman and famous designer Giorgetto Giugiaro at Geneva in 1971. In November 1972, Giugiaro's efforts appeared on the Italdesign stand at Turin, Italy alongside his even more outrageous Maserati Boomerang. The Esprit name, French for "Spirit," was chosen by committee at the time. The first of the breed were delivered in June of 1976.

This Lotus S1 Esprit was stripped down to its tub in preparation of creating of the finest examples that we have ever had the pleasure of owning. An icon of the Lotus motorcar world, this S1 has been serviced and sorted in absolutely every area to make it not only more aesthetically appealing, but likely one of the most reliable and well dialed in Esprit's in existence. Having owned several Esprits that were in both original and well-maintained condition, they were not updated and sorted when and where needed. First-hand experience informs me, this Esprit has been fully sorted and finely-tuned, both cosmetically and mechanically. This is an S1 Esprit that drives as good as it looks.

Initially restored by an avid Lotus enthusiast, Mr. J. Greenwood, Arizona, it was then sold to a California Lotus enthusiast and who enjoyed it for several years, using it for various events, including showing at 2022 Quail Motorsports Concours as well as the West Coast Lotus Meet where it won Best of Show.

Most recently it has been traded to Autosport Designs toward another very special Esprit, our Sport 300. This Esprit S1 must be one of the finest restored examples of its kind in the world. Most recently, it has received its service and is a turn key example that is ready for immediate use.
