A complete ground up restoration by Larry Dustman of the Thing Shop in Candler Arizona, the largest Thing parts supplier in the world, absolutely everything is as new. The side curtains may be removed and stored in fleece lined, custom made vinyl bags. The car is also equipped with a new Thing Shop show bar and padding. The original Thing seats have been rebuilt and upholstered with mb-tex vinyl. The car also includes Thing Shop duckboards and carpeting and powdercoated wheels and stock hubcaps. The body was completly stripped and the paint redone in this striking original color combination. Most all parts have been powder coated including the chassis.
A complete mechanical restoration was performed, including engine and transmission. The engine was assembled using only the best German parts. New suspension/brake parts were installed. All the best parts and accessories The Thing shop had to offer went into this car.
This beautifully restored Thing has only logged 3,900 miles on the drive train since restoration. The remaining 3,400 miles were logged as a tow dinghy behind a motor home. It looks and drives like it just rolled off the assembly line.
This Thing was purchased on behalf of its previous owner by us at the 2011 Monterey auctions where it was purchased for $24,000.00.
